Hey Friends,
For those of you who don’t know I recently took a trip to San Diego! I desperately needed to get away from the dreary cold and dark of the Midwest! The American Psychiatric Nurses Association was hosting a conference so I thought it was a fantastic excuse to get away and recharge. The sunshine filled my soul and taught me some important lessons that I’d like to share with you today!
Lesson #1: If you want to live intentionally, take time to get away and imagine the life you want to live.I took my husband with me on this trip but left the kids at home. We focused on a variety of activities that were very encouraging. One, we talked about our future dreams and goals. Two, we talked about our relationship. Three, we talked about our kids. Communication is king in any relationship, but I think this is especially true in the context of marriage. We live and work as a team so taking time to strengthen that team was incredible.
Lesson #2: As a parent, it is ok to take time away from your kids. This is one I definitely struggle with! I struggle with it in two ways. For one I am a dreamer, I’m always thinking and planning for the future. I often struggle to be emotionally present with my children even when I am not working. However, despite this fact I don’t enjoy being away from my children and miss them when I am gone. However, I’ve had to set aside intentional time to work on my business in order to be more present with the kids when I am at home. I worked a significant portion of our trip, but I found that it was very life giving. I enjoy the work that I do. It also allowed me to be more focused on my children when I came home.
Lesson #3: Work on something that brings you joy.I have a lot of passions and dreams of what I want to do with my life. I love being a mom, but that is not my only passion. I feel very fulfilled when I work on my dreams and goals. I don’t get to spend as much time on it as I would like but for now I’m taking small steps toward my bigger goals.
Overall this trip was fantastic! I’m thankful for time away to sit on the beach and talk to my husband! If you found any encouragement from this blog, please share it with a friend! We release new blog posts every week!
Talk to you soon!
